Welcome to our Legends Page!
Hero's from our forgotten Past.
This page celebrates the strength and perseverance of African American families who helped pioneer the American West in the 18th and 19th Century. Many black families moved west before and after slavery to escape oppression and seek a new life in the uncharted western territories. All was not easy in the "new west", however, most black families in that era, were no strangers to cruelties.
Seeking asylum from the oppression of the slave owners, many black families and escaped slaves found sanctuary with the Native American Indian Tribes. The "kin-ship" that the native American Indian and escaped slaves had was profoundly unique. They both had the same common oppressor, customs and traditions. The relationships sponsored marriage with native American Indians as well as offspring, whom today still bear the traditions and customs.
